to saving money on groceries! Oh my goodness it is so fun. why did no one ever tell me this.
okay so today my old dell printer just died, would not load paper anymore and just went crazy. i do have a really nice canon printer that i got for free when my hubs got me the best bday gift ever last year (my beloved macbook). but the canon is out of ink and each refill costs 29.99. and walgreens and other refill places dont refill canon cartridges. and i like coupons and all but not $60 worth of ink every few months worth.
so i had an hour of free time before my new hair cut so i wandered over to Target and scored a lexmark printer for 29.99 complete with a free color cartridge (which walgreens WILL refill for 9.99 thank you very much).
after the haircut, (which i will blog and share pics of tomorrow) i went home and hooked up the printer which is compatible with both my mac and hubs' dell laptop. nice feature since i have only been able to print from the dell laptop/printer since dell doesnt work with mac.
once the printer was up and running i sat myself down and went crazy printing coupons. and there are some AWESOME ones out there right now. Go to my new fav site: Hip2save.com and click on coupons and scroll thru the posts and print some yourself!
after we had dinner and watch American Idol I headed out to King Soopers again, armed with a fresh stash of awesome coupons.
i know this is blurry. camera phone pic, sorry i was too lazy to go hunt down the real camera after my trip.
the receipt says I paid $18.97
my manufacturer coupons totaled $22.98
my multipled coupon savings was $1.00 ( I had four .75 off coupons that they multipled to $1)
my sooper card coupon savings were $37.06 (basically sale prices i got by using my card and using their promotion on buy ten save $5)
my total coupon savings were $61.04 OR $80.01 worth of food for $18.97
I saved 76% off my order on 31 items purchased
This is what I was able to buy:
6 10pks of capri sun (.87 each after coupon and sale price)
4 bags goldfish crackers (+.12 for each bag after coupon and sale price, they paid me to buy these)
4 Sobe Lifewaters (+.25 for each one after BOGO coupon and sale price, again I made a profit)
6 boxes various Nabisco brand crackers (.70 each after coupon and sale price)
4 bags Kraft shredded cheese (1.20 each after coupon and sale price)
2 oscar meyer deli select lunch meat (1.49 each after coupon and sale price)
2 packages Nestle refridgerated cookie dough (.40 each after coupon and sale price)
2 tubs ICBINB light (.39 each after coupon and sale price)
1 box plastic spoons (1.69 no sale no coupon)
it was awesome. and i still have alot of coupons i printed tonight that i will wait to use when there is another sale in town. seriously paying attention to your local store circulars and clipping coupons saves so much money. i always thought buying generic brands would almost always be the best bet. BUT ITS NOT! generics dont have coupons (the stores may put them on sale, but since they ARE the manufactuer you cant "stack" the discounts by combining a manufactuer coupon with a store sale). for me it has become worth my time to print and clip and get two sunday papers every week to save us money. our cupboards and fridge and freezer are packed. the past two paydays I have been $35+ under our grocery budget but have a ton more to show for it.
my husband is our sole breadwinner, which i appreciate and am so thankful for. i love being able to be a helpmate to him by watching where our money goes and being frugal with our grocery bill. i feel like i am contributing more in a financial way. and its so great because he is so proud of my savings and gets excited with me when i hit a good bargain.
