$100 day aka the day I overdid it

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

On Monday I was feeling optimistic. The kids had a two hour delay for school due to some snow, so I took the opportunity to drive myself to Walmart to pick up a few things I had been putting off buying (new socks for all the kids) and some extra spoons for the kitchen. (Seriously, it seems we never have enough spoons around here. So I bought 8 more). I ventured thru the McD's drive thru for their version of a nonfat mocha. It was nasty by the way, but I was desperate for caffeine.

At ten till ten I got the kids to school and Bug and I made our way up the road to Safeway. I had already been there the night before to buy some goodies on sale, but discovered I had a bunch more coupons that would match up with some items on sale and wanted to take advantage.
Here is what I spent in two transactions: $15.85.

Transaction #1 was all P&G products. Safeway is running a buy $25 worth of selected P&G items, get $10 off your next order (on basically anything in the store). The $25 was supposed to be total before coupons. I didnt end up getting a $10 voucher, I think I was off the mark by like $1. Grrr. So much for doing math in my head!
I did get some great deals though:

  • (2) 2pk Bounce Dryer Bars
  • (3) Febreze Air Freshners
  • (1) 2pk Max Strength Mr Clean Eraser
  • (1) Dawn Direct Foam Dish Soap
The total after tax and coupons for all this was $14.85, I saved 67%

Transaction #2:
  • (2) 4pk Fiber One Yogurt
  • (1) 4pk Yoplait Delights Yogurt
  • (1) 6pk Dannon Danino Yogurt
  • (2) Crest Toothpaste (large size)
  • (4) snicker bars
Total after tax and coupons: $1, I saved 93% on my order

After our Safeway excursion we went to our WIC (Women, Infants & Children) appointment. I had to meet with a nutritionist and get our vouchers for the next few months. Basically they just need to make sure I am not losing weight this pregnancy, like I normally do. So far no weight gain or loss at 14 weeks, which is great as I am usually down 10 lbs at least by now. Meds are working!

Then we headed up town to Target. I was very excited about some good deals to be had to match with my coupons!

I paid $20.05 and purchased:
  • (4) Gillette Hydrator Body Washes for Men 8.4oz
  • (1) Gillette Hydrator Body Wash for Men 12oz
  • (1) Gillette Men's Deodorant
  • (2) Loreal Everpure Hair Products -shampoo/conditioner
  • (2) trial size Johnsons Baby shampoo
  • (2) Purex 3-in-1 20 count laundry sheets
  • (2) My little Pony dolls
  • (1) Pictureka card game
  • (1) Scrabble slam card game
I dont know about you, but for me that is ALOT of stuff for $20 at Target. I normally cant leave that store without spending $50! But I stuck to my coupons and didnt buy anything unless it was a great deal. The card games I got for 24 cents each! The Pony's were BOGO (with coupon) and all of the 8.4oz body washes were free after coupon! That was a fun shopping trip.

Next on the list was Albertsons to hit up their $2 General Mills cereal sale. Now, many times stores put only their smallest boxes of cereal up for sale, but I was able to get almost all of these in the 1lb or larger boxes. And of course, I had coupons.

My out of pocket expense at Albertsons was $12.25 for:
  • (2) Golden Grahams
  • (2) Lucky Charms
  • (2) Wheaties Fuel
  • (2) Chocolate Cheerios
  • (2) Banana Nut Cheerios
So, suffice it say we are good on cereal for awhile. I saved $34 with coupons/store sales on this trip.

Our last and final trip was to King Soopers. I had a cart full of stuff, and can't remember it all and I was so tired when I got home I did not take any pictures. Here is what I can remember getting...

  • (4) bottles Kraft BBQ sauce
  • (5) bottles Kroger brand salad dressing
  • (10) Chef Boyardee Ravioli
  • (2) loaves Earthgrains bread
  • (12) Yoplait yogurt
  • (6) Heathly Choice meals
  • (3) Dole bagged salads
  • (4) 10pks Bar S Hot Dogs
  • (2) Ragu Spaghetti Sauce
  • (2) 1lb bags of lunchmeat
  • (1) Stacy Pita Chips
  • (2) 6 pks applesauce
  • (3) lbs bananas
  • (2) lbs apples
  • (2) gallons nonfat milk
  • (1) doz eggs
  • (1) box grape nuts
I know there is more, but my brain has shut down. After tax and coupons I spent $56.18 on all that. I didnt need to buy any meat because we are still very well stocked from the meat sales in Dec/Jan. I didnt need to buy much of any snack food because I stocked up on the sales last month. We still have alot of cheese from the Kraft sale last month as well.

So after spending about $100 out of pocket we are well stocked on many items. Hubs and I estimate that we wont need to buy bodywash, razors or deodorant for ourselves for the next year.

By the time I got home it was 4pm and I was so wiped out. I put the food items away and then went into zombie mode for the rest of the evening. My poor tired pregnant body is not used to being out and about all day like that. Neither is sweet baby Bug who was very upset with his carseat by the time we left King Soopers. He is a trooper though, he is so used to being in his little routine all day, that it was nice to see he adjusts pretty well to being thrown off of it sometimes. It only took him 6 hours to finally make it known that he was DONE with the shopping. And believe me, I was done too.

And wow if you read this whole thing, applause for you!

Ok, seriously? When you come home in March you are teaching me how to do this. I need someone to sit me down and hold my hand ... I nominate you!
