I love it! $223.41 worth of groceries for..... $105.52
The Kroger brand store in our area King Soopers is having a "Mega Sale". Basically what they do is put alot of items on sale and then when you buy any combination of 10 of those items you get $5 off (so .50 off per item) I ended up buying 51 items on the Mega Sale, and everyone of those items I had a coupon for! I got boxes of Nabisco crackers for .70, Hunts tomatoes for .34, kraft cheese for $1.20, caprisun for .87 each. It's hard to see everything I was able to get. Our cupboards are packed! I had alot of coupons expiring today so that is the only reason I willed myself to take all the kids out to the grocery store, and at dinner time no less. But praise Jesus! They were all well behaved, for the most part! When I was checking out there was an older gentleman behind me and as he watched the checker scan my huge stack of coupons he kept inching forward to see the total. When I was paying he asked me, "how much did you save?" I said "I think around $60", and he said "WOW that makes all that time you invest worth it, doesnt it?" The checker piped up as he was looking at my reciept, and said actually she saved over $117 today! The man looked shocked, and said "now that is some great grocery shopping! Well done!" That made my day! The checker and the stranger were both so impressed with my savings that it made me even more proud of the time and work I put into trying to get most bang for our buck.
Shopping like this has enabled me to stock our pantry with items to make meals with and our fridge full of healthy snacks for our kids like lowfat yogurt and applesauce and fruit and veggies. And our freezer is full of frozen veggies and meat, and a few frozen pizzas. So although I may buy lots of snack type food with my coupons, I am stocking up on those for cheap and saving them to eat over the next few months and using the savings to buy fresh produce and other items that rarely go on sale or have coupons. We could probably eat from the pantry for a good month or two at this point and only need to go shopping for milk, bread, produce and eggs. Its a nice feeling knowing I am consistently spending less each trip but getting more and more food each time.
