Yesterday was my wonderful midweek day off from work. Sometimes we get out of the house and do productive and fun things, and then there are days like yesterday that none of us ever leave the house and change out of our Pj's. Those days are my favorite.
So, it was a lounging around the house kind of day, watching Charlotte's Web and Happy Feet (with the kids of course!) and doing nothing of any particular value. After a long afternoon nap, and a phone converstation with a friend about the demise of my beloved laptop; it was time to tackle the kids' bedroom. Over the past three days the kids had literally dumped every toy out of the toy boxes onto their bedroom floor. It was at a point I could no longer see the carpet. I dragged the kids in there with me and advised them that in order to eat dinner tonight we all to work together to get the room clean. This did not go over well. Jillian complained that she "needed to rest and finish her dreams", and Jackson told me his "legs hurt so I cant help".
So young and already coming up with little lies for why they cannot clean up their room. Ugh.
A few moments into trying to sort through the mounds of train tracks, polly pockets, rescue heros, cabbage patch dolls, and legos I turned to Jackson and said "Why is it that you guys have to dump out all your toys all over the floor and make such a big mess?"
Jackson, wise beyond his four years, then said "Mom... we do it because we're kids. It's what kids do."
Oh. That is as good an explanation as any.
