a new journey into lands unknown...

My kids think I am crazy.

Tonight I called and had my cable shut off.

Why? Because I hate television? Because I am tired of re-runs and reality shows due to the writers strike? Because if I hear that Hannah Montana song one more time I might go postal?

No to all of the above.

It's because it is the ultimate time-suck for me and my kids. Well that and the internet, and I am not loony enough to disconnect that. I've done that before and let me tell you the withdrawals were not pretty, not pretty at all.

After I completed the call with my friendly, albeit perplexed comcast agent, our service was turned off about 2 minutes later.

I didn't prep the kids for the change, so they thought the power went out. They were none too happy when I informed them the Time-Suck Box would not be coming back on. Its only purpose is to play Wii games, V.Smile games, and watch our collection of DVD's and VHS's. Oh and our Netflix.

Surprisingly enough within moments they had seemed to deal with the new information and were off playing sword fighting or something. Not quite the meltdown I had anticipated.

I had been considering it all weekend, and tonight made the decision. I figured I might as well get it over with while I was feeling strong, instead of waiting for the times of weakness after the kids were in bed, and the couch was oh so cozy as I watched hour after hour of Everybody Loves Raymond reruns and Jon and Kate Plus 8.

I don't think I will miss it much. My kids will play more, actually get some use out of all those new Christmas toys, I will get the chance to read those books I've been wanting to get to, but haven't been able to, because "where does the time go?" -- oh yeah, on my butt parked in front of the TV from 8-11:30pm EVERY NIGHT.

My sleep habits will be improved (possibly), and I will finally have some time to work on my wii karaoke and dance skills playing "Boogie"... yeah, baby.

Dang it, I may even find time to clean my house and put away laundry...

Naaaahhhh..

Its not like I'm quitting my job or anything, I'm not gonna have THAT much spare time left.

I will just have to wait until Friday to watch my 7 beloved episodes of LOST online, and The Office whenever it shall return with new episodes.

So wish me well, as the kids face reality in the morning when there is no Wiggles and Higglytown Heroes to watch in the morning.

Actually, you might need to pray for me, as I will have to be dragging my tired butt out of bed a little earlier than normal because I just fired my Electronic Babysitter/Distractor, which almost always gave me an extra 30 minutes of sleep time.

Dangit I did not think that part through.

Oh well, whats done is done. The TV free journey begins!

You know, I have only had cable only a couple of times since I moved out on my own many many years ago, so I totally agree that it is for the best. Not to mention how much money you will save with that one simple change. I would never get anything done if I had cable in my house. When I go places where they have cable I get stuck and could sit there for hours. Anyhow, I just wanted to say that I believe that you made a very wise decision. By the way, the kiddo pics are so precious. I need to get my kids pictures taken soon too.
