This evening in the car, on the way home after going to visit a good friend who I *thought* had already given birth only to learn she was still pushing 2 1/2 hours after I was told she was almost completely dilated (and all the mommys breathe a collective sigh of sympathy). This said friend ended up needing a cesarean and it was going to be awhile before she got out of surgery and I didnt want me and the hyper twins intruding on some much needed family time and rest. So we went on our way. I attempted to explain to the kids what was going on, that the "special place" that God makes for babies to born from Mommys bodies wasnt going to work for the baby to come out this time and now the Doctors needed to make a cut in her tummy to take the baby out. I mentioned something about how she had been pushing the baby for a long time and he just wasnt wanting to come out yet and how tired she must be.
Jack: "How is she pushing her tummy Mom?"
Me: "well, its kind of like when you have a big poop that is hard to get out. Imagine doing that for a really long time... it wouldn't be fun would it?"
Jack: "Will the baby come out of her BUTT?"
Me: trying not to laugh "no honey. another place."
Needless to say the kids were VERY disappointed that we were not going to stay to see the baby and mommy and daddy tonight, as they have been GREATLY anticipating his arrival for months.
As we were a few blocks from the hospital Jack pipes up....
Jack: "I wish I could push the baby out of her tummy with all my big muscles.... but I cant. I'm just not that kind of man, mom. I'm not a doctor."
Me: " Oh hon, I know you wish you could help, that is really sweet babe."
Jack: "I wish I was a doctor. It would be good to be a doctor so I can help Auntie M. But I'm not a doctor. I'm just an astronaut."
-when he said this he was so sad about it and wasn't really even talking to me, just talking out loud. It was hilarious. So matter of factly that he is just an astronaut, not a doctor.
His sister and I both cracked up. It was so cute and innocent, but so funny. Man, that kid cracks me up!
